If you plan to spend more time outdoors this year and want to light things up, you can do so using landscape lighting. There are a variety of things to consider with this lighting, however. Below is information that should help you so you will have beautiful light at night.
Choose Landscape Lighting
The first thing you have to consider is the type of landscape lighting you choose. What you choose will depend on where you need the lighting.
There is highlighting, which is used as a spotlight to showcase a feature in your yard that you want to be noticed. This could be a beautiful flower garden, a statue, etc. There is also uplighting which is a light that faces upward. Downlighting is just the opposing as the light is installed higher and faces downward. Moonlighting is also available which works much like downlighting except it creates a softer light.
Another option you have is silhouette landscape lighting. This type of light is used behind something that you only want the backdrop to be lit. Shadow lighting is installed at the base of the object. The light angles to showcase the item in a different way. There are lights that you stick into the ground that run by solar power. These are often placed next to a walkway or other type of path. They are easy to install as they do not connect to any type of electricity.
Choose the Landscape Lighting Fixtures
When you finish choosing the type of light you want to use, you then need to choose the lighting fixtures. If you want to use high voltage lights, such as for your spotlights, the lighting system will be connected to your house current. Solar lights are not as bright when compared to other types because they depend on how much sun they receive that day. Another lighting option are LED lights, and these do not use a lot of energy. LED lights can also be used for up- or down-lighting, and you can choose bulbs in different colors.
Low voltage landscape lighting uses less power and is energy efficient. With low voltage lighting, you can use more light fixtures also. This will work for things like string lighting, which is helpful if you want to put lighting in trees or around a deck or patio.
